How to Install Ubuntu on Galaxy Tab
Finally you can do what you expect if you own Samsung Galaxy Tab , or we can install Ubuntu as I did long ago with the T-Mobile G1 (HTC Dream). On the Internet, I’ve found some information that only you can do that for the Samsung Epic and a video on YouTube so I armed myself with paper and memory and to take various steps and stilarvi a detailed guide here it is:
Abstract: This guide was written by me, however I do not assume any liability for your Galaxy Tab was broken in some way, even if, as you see in the picture above I tested it on me personally.
Requirements:
a) a Galaxy Tab
b) Android SDK
c) Root permissions on the tablet ( see here )
d) Busybox installed (follow the guide below)
e) These files: http://db.tt/YnJZuf1
f) AndroidVNC installed (look in the market)
g) Terminal Emulator installed (look in the market)
h) Patience …
Guide
a) Enable root permissions is very simple, a little less to install busybox, as we see, download the following file: Busybox 1.17.2
b) Unzip the zip, put the files into the busybox and the Android SDK tools folder connects the Galaxy Tab by USB (USB applications by enabling the Debug-> development)
c) Open a command prompt and posizioniamoci in the tools with the path and type:
adb shell
on (allow the tablet)
mount-o rw, remount-t yaffs2 / dev/block/mtdblock3 / system
exit
adb push busybox / data / local
adb shell
cd / data / local
busybox chmod 755
/ data / local / busybox cp / data / local / busybox / system / xbin / busybox
cd / system / xbin
chmod 755 busybox
. / busybox-install-s / system / xbin
rm / data / local / busybox
d) Now that we have busybox installed proceed with the guide, download the file and put Ubuntu inside of your SDcard Galaxy Tab inside a folder called ubuntu
e) We can now remove the sd and open the terminal emulator, type:
on
cd / sdcard / ubuntu
sh. / ubuntu.sh
bootlinux
rm-rf / tmp / * .X
export USER = root
vncserver-geometry 1280 × 800
f) After that we go and we androidVNC application data:
Alias: root
Password: ubuntu
Address: localhost
Port: 5901
g) Click connect and voila! Now you can play with ubuntu on your Galaxy Tab!
Obviously there is nothing so exceptional, however, is a first step towards a useful tool.
